INHERIT THE WIND
September 30 - October
9, 2011
Based on a real-life case in 1925, two
great lawyers argue the case for and against a science teacher accused of
the crime of teaching evolution. Teacher B.T. Cates is arrested for teaching
Darwin's theories. Famous lawyer Henry Drummond defends him; fundamentalist
politician Matthew Brady prosecutes. This is a very thinly disguised
rendition of the 1925 "Scopes monkey trial" with debates between Clarence
Darrow and William Jennings Bryan taken largely from the transcripts.
THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS: THE MUSICAL
January 27 - February 5, 2012
Each of the five acts act is a short
musical in the style of various American and British musical theatre
composers (i.e., Rodgers & Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman,
Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Kander & Ebb) all dealing with roughly the same
plot: "I can't pay the rent!"
Rodgers & Hammerstein's
CAROUSEL
July 20 - 29, 2012
In a Maine coastal village toward the end of the 19th century, the
swaggering, carefree carnival barker, Billy Bigelow, captivates and marries
the naive millworker, Julie Jordan. Billy loses his job just as he learns
that Julie is pregnant and, desperately intent upon providing a decent life
for his family, he is coerced into being an accomplice to a robbery. Caught
in the act and facing the certainty of prison, he takes his own life and is
sent "up there." Billy is allowed to return to earth for one day fifteen
years later, and he encounters the daughter he never knew. She is a lonely,
friendless teenager, her father's reputation as a thief and bully having
haunted her throughout her young life. How Billy instills in both the child
and her mother a sense of hope and dignity is a dramatic testimony to the
power of love.

WHY TORTURE IS WRONG AND THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE
THEM
September 8 - October 2, 2011
Felicity is suddenly in crisis: Is her new husband, whom she married when
drunk, a terrorist? Or just crazy? Or both? Is her father’s hobby of
butterfly collecting really a cover for his involvement in a shadow
government? Honing in on our private terrors both at home and abroad, Durang
oddly relieves our homeland “insecurity” in this black comedy for an era of
yellow, orange and red alerts
AMERICAN BUFFALO
October 27 - November 2, 2011
In a Chicago junk shop three small-time crooks plot to carry out the
midnight robbery of a coin collection. In the hours leading up to the heist,

this often-humorous, gripping award winning drama.

CHRISTMAS TIDINGS
November 18 - December 30, 2011
The holiday season is
always one of the most fun and exciting times at Way Off Broadway. The joy
of the season returns to the theatre with this year's original musical
production of Christmas Tidings. With Christmas Day just around the
corner, Goody's Bavarian Christmas Card and Gift Shoppe is abuzz with
activity. There's certainly something magical in the air as Mrs. K. and
Rusty help to make the shoppers' Christmas wishes come true.
DAMN YANKEES
January 13 - March 4, 2012
Middle-aged baseball fanatic Joe Boyd trades his soul to the Devil
(the charming but devious Mr. Applegate) for a chance to lead his favorite
team to victory in the pennant race against the New York Yankees. As young
baseball sensation Joe Hardy, he transforms the hapless Washington Senators
into a winning team, only to realize the true worth of the life (and wife)
he's left behind. With the help of a handy escape clause and a guilt-ridden
temptress named Lola, Joe outsmarts Applegate, returns to his former self
and shepherds the Senators to the World Series.
JEKYLL & HYDE - THE MUSICAL
March 23 - June 2, 2012
An
evocative tale of the epic battle between good and evil, Jekyll & Hyde
is based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story about a brilliant
doctor whose experiments with human personality create a murderous
counterpart. Convinced the cure for his father's mental illness lies in
the separation of Man's evil nature from his good, Dr. Henry Jekyll
unwittingly unleashes his own dark side, wreaking havoc in the streets
of late 19th century London as the savage, maniacal Edward Hyde.
FOOTLOOSE
June 15 - August 25, 2012
One of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory
bursts onto the live stage with exhilarating results. When Ren and his
mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, Ren is prepared for the
inevitable adjustment period at his new school. What he isn't prepared for
are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the
local preacher. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for
the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on
him. To the rockin' rhythm of its Tony-nominated score, Footloose
celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm
heart and an open mind.
Fall Show - A Classic To Be Announced
September 7 - November 3, 2012
Strike
up the band because he's on his way . . . We can't tell you the name
of the show yet, but it will have people coming all the way from Gary,
Indiana to see it. You aren't going to want to miss the seventy-six
trombones leading the parade of characters to Way Off Broadway this
fall!
SEASON'S GREETINGS: AN EMPIRE CHRISTMAS
November 16 - December 29, 2012
It’s The Odd Couple meets A Christmas Carol
when two brothers - one, a successful, high-powered businessman, the
other, a struggling, out of work actor - find themselves unexpectedly
spending the holidays together. When the brothers, who lead two
completely different lives, find their worlds colliding, holiday
hilarity ensues as a wide array of friends, family, and associates walk
through the front door. Season's Greetings is a musical
comedy anyone with a family will understand and enjoy.
